Description

Pokemon Kalos Crystal continues the captivating journey initiated in Unova Red, serving as a sequel that transports players to a re-imagined world based on Generation 2. In this intriguing iteration, the Unova Pokedex has taken its place as the first generation of Pokemon, while the Kalos Pokedex represents the exciting second generation of creatures. This extraordinary game showcases an extensive roster of Pokemon spanning across generations 5 and 6, inviting players to explore a rich diversity of species.

Much like its predecessor, Unova Red, Kalos Crystal allows for the fulfillment of a remarkable feat – acquiring every single Pokemon within the Pokedex throughout a single playthrough. The experience is one of unending adventure and exploration in the Kalos region, where the pursuit of Pokemon mastery knows no bounds.

Aside from the new Pokemon, the game functions primarily the same as the original. The biggest difference is the inclusion of Fairy types. This game also adjusts the type matchup chart to the modern chart first used in Gen 6. All new attacks added into Unova Red are still here, as well as several new attacks to fill out the new Fairy type, as well as add some signature moves to Gen 6 Pokemon, and simply flesh out some underrepresented types. An equivalent number of moves were removed from the game as well, mostly signature moves of Gen 1 & 2 Pokemon, or simply moves that did not fit well with the Gen 5 & 6 Pokemon.

In Unova Red, just as in its predecessor, Unova Red has made significant adjustments to the evolution mechanics for standard trade evolutions. In this iteration, the tried-and-true trade method has been replaced with standard level-up evolutions, giving trainers a fresh approach to evolving their beloved Pokémon. Moreover, the alterations extend beyond just trade evolutions, as stone-based evolution methods have also undergone modifications, ensuring a truly unique evolution experience. This commitment to maintaining the authenticity of Gen 5 Pokémon and their evolution processes is a hallmark of Unova Red, ensuring that players will relive the magic of the original games.

TMs have also undergone transformations in Unova Red, mirroring the changes introduced in the second generation of Pokémon games. Just like in Gen 2, TMs remain single-use items, emphasizing the strategic aspect of move acquisition and management. This limitation encourages trainers to carefully select the moves they teach their Pokémon, adding an extra layer of decision-making to battles.

In the world of moves, the traditional classification of Physical or Special moves based on type still holds, closely mirroring the conventions from earlier generations. This familiar approach adds a level of consistency for trainers as they strategize and build their teams. However, as a notable exception, just as in the original Unova Red, Ghost-type moves continue to be classified as SPECIAL, while Dark-type moves retain their PHYSICAL categorization. Furthermore, the introduction of the Fairy type into the Pokémon world has it placed firmly in the SPECIAL category, a distinction that brings new depth and dynamics to battles.

Unova Red faithfully embraces these mechanics and adjustments, providing trainers with a nostalgic yet refreshing Pokémon journey.
