Description

Developed over five years, Star Beasts is a complete Gen 1 dex overhaul and tribute to the original Pokémon games.

Initially inspired by Vast Fame’s Shi Kong Xing Shou, the project evolved into its own unique creation, featuring brand new Fakemon designs tailored for English-speaking audiences.

Features

  • Completely overhauled soundtrack, with almost no original music remaining.
  • Redesigned Pokédex, fixing balance issues and replacing outdated or inconsistent designs.
  • Updated movesets with even more new moves.
  • Introduction of Steel and Dark types.
  • New areas and in-game events.
  • Enhanced trainer rosters, new trainer types, and improved AI.
  • Updated dialogue, removing references to “Pokemon” (hopefully no slip-ups!).
  • Rebalanced gameplay to be more accessible, with helpful NPCs providing hints on rare Star Beasts.
  • Quality of life improvements like an experience bar.

Changelog

2.0 is a complete overhaul of Star Beasts 1.0, “Meteor Version”, rechristened “Asteroid Version.”
It should be a more polished, “complete” experience compared to 1.0.

  • v2.05 – Fixed being able to walk through walls in Cracture Chasm
  • v2.04 – Fixed type matchup oversight
  • v2.03 – RockinBadge (1st badge) now correctly raises the trade obedience cap
  • v2.02 – Fixed a game-breaking bug with accessing dex entries in the overworld
  • v2.01 – Fixed a few beasts having missing menu sprites, “Starmon” typo
  • v2.0 – Initial Release

Known Glitches

  • Music can sound wrong or loop improperly on older, less accurate emulators like VisualboyAdvance or older versions of NO$GBA. Use accurate emulators like BGB or MGBA.
  • Certain areas and encounters may cause crashes on less accurate emulators. Save often, and avoid saving in specific areas, especially a certain location in Celadon City.
  • Rewinding can lead to severe glitches or crashes, similar to issues in vanilla Gen 1. It’s safer to use savestates instead.
  • Beasts revived after fainting due to recoil damage will become poisoned. Heal them with an item or visit a Star Beast Center.

Inventory Glitches (Should Be Fixed but Mentioned for Posterity)

  • Sometimes, depositing items shows incorrect names (visual glitch only).
  • Depositing Items May occasionally crash the game. Save and reload before depositing items, especially in Saffron City.
